LE VARIANTI DELLA VITESSA

Vitessa cameras have been produced by Voigtlander for ten years, in four principal variant: original Vitessa, Vitessa L, Vitessa N and Vitessa T. During these ten years, always Voigtlander improved this production, with a series of new features that, today, allows us to decline a great number of variant, who are happiness of the most careful collectors. Original Vitessa is immediatly recognizable for some aspects: the form of the internal rangefinder window, diamond shape, the first 3 variant without accessory shoe, with synchro- flash on lens barrell, Voigtlaender and Vitessa Logo in double line carachter only on the top, from fourth version always present in bold characters and frontally in the body. In the first version of Vitessa A, it had not fully removable camera back, pressure plate has been connected to the body and not to the camera back, and had manual parallax correction. Ultron lens could have screw filters or bayonet filters, from second variant the camera back become full removable and pressure plate has been connected to the camera back, the second improvement was the substitution of the old Compur-Rapid shutter with the better Synchro-Compur-MX, always a bayonet fit for filters, and automatic parallax correction. From third variant ring for neckstrap were on the body, from fourth variant a modern syncro-flash was always put on left barn door. All the variant of VitessaA were equipped by the wonderful Ultron 50 f/2.0, a masterpiece of all times, from the successive versions was adopted also Color Skopar 50 f/3.5 and f/2,8. After Vitessa N and Vitessa L birth, definitively disappear manual parallax correction, and the form of the internal rangefinder window become square shape. The new Synchro-Compur-LVS shutter is equipped with EV values, and the two rings of diaphragm and of shutter speeds are connected asZeiss lenses for many years after, to testify that some terrible ideas are long to die. For Vitessa N with Color Skopar f/3.5, EV values goes from 3 to 18; there is a rare version of Vitessa N with Ultron, very similar to Vitessa A4. For Vitessa L with meter and with Color Skopar f/2.8 lens, EV values goes from 3 a 18, while Vitessa L with meter and with Ultron f/2.0 lens, EV values goes from 2 a 18. Vitessa L meter is has DIN, ASA and WESTON scale in six sensibility range, from 6 to 200 ASA, with A B C D E F letters. Subsequently this range has been replaced by a modified scale from 12 to 400 ASA with B C D E F G letters. This modify is, at collector's eye, is a variant, and so Vitessa L is characterized for 5 different variant for different lens and meter sensitivity . The same differences it is possible to find in Vitessa T model, that one with interchangeable lenses, in first variants was equipped bu a meter with range from 6 to 200 ASA ( in both variant with bubbles or not) and after with range from 12 to 400 ASA (only bubble variant). So the total number of Vitessa models is four, while the total number of Vitessa variant is 18 : 6 Vitessa-A including dummy, 3 Vitessa-N , 5 Vitessa-L , e 4 Vitessa-T including dummy.
